How ethical is medicine?

In our recent season of Questions of our Times, where we explore some of today’s big questions in a series of interviews, we talked with Dr Claire Gilbert, medical ethicist, about some of the biggest issues in medicine today. The interview was conducted live on Premier Radio, and is now available on video.

Claire was formerly a policy adviser in medical ethics on the Archbishops’ Council of the Church of England, and a member of the BMA’s Medical Ethics Committee. Her interest in medicine, health and ethics is also personal, as she has received a stem-cell transplant in response to myeloma – a bone marrow cancer.

Responding to a question about the polarisation of views on assisted dying, Claire said:

’People generally hold their views for very principled and very thought out reasons, so we do very well to listen carefully to each other and learn from each other.’

Clare was interviewed by Major Nigel Bovey, former editor of the Salvation Army magazine The War Cry, and the author of several books, including his latest book, Browsing the Bible.

Questions of our Times is produced by the Christian Evidence Society and Premier Christian Radio, and is made possible with the support of the Montgomery Trust.
