Is wellbeing more than skin deep?
In our recent season of Questions of our Times, where we explore some of today’s big questions in a series of interviews, we talked with Bishop Sarah Mullally, Bishop of London, about how health is wholistic, embracing individual people and whole communities, and involves our physical, spiritual, mental, emotional and relational wellbeing. The interview was conducted live on Premier Radio, and is now available on video.
Bishop Sarah has devoted her life to health and healing. A former nurse and midwife, in 1999 she was appointed England’s Chief Nursing Officer. In 2004, she left the NHS for full-time ministry as an Anglican priest, and became Bishop of London in 2018.
Responding to a question about assisted dying, Bishop Sarah said:
‘We should be talking more about death. Talking about death not only allows bereavement to form a different shape, but it also helps us to prepare better for our own death.’

Bishop Sarah was interviewed by Major Nigel Bovey, former editor of the Salvation Army magazine The War Cry, and the author of several books, including his latest book, Browsing the Bible.
