Claire Gilbert: How ethical is medicine?

In this episode of our Questions of our Times series, we talk with Dr Claire Gilbert, author, lecturer and ethical mentor, about some of the biggest issues in medicine today, including the doctor-patient relationship, the use of human embryo stem-cells, the question of when life begins, and the issues surrounding big pharma, gene therapy, AI and medicine, and assisted dying.

Claire founded or co-founded five institutions that interpret and speak ethics into everyday life. She was formerly a policy adviser in medical ethics on the Archbishops’ Council of the Church of England, and a member of the BMA’s Medical Ethics Committee. Her interest in medicine, health and ethics is also personal, as she has received a stem-cell transplant in response to myeloma – a bone marrow cancer.

The host for Questions of Our Times is Major Nigel Bovey, former editor of the Salvation Army magazine The War Cry, and the author of several books, including his latest book, Browsing the Bible.

This interview was broadcast live on Premier Christian Radio on 26 November 2024.
