New podcast explores the question of God
The Question of God, a new podcast series produced with the help of AI, listens into a conversation between students about philosophy, science and belief in God. The 12-episode series features four fictional students who hold widely different views: Douglas is a classical atheist, Astrid a Christian theist, Thomas a new atheist, and Hiromi is an agnostic who hasn’t made up her mind about God.
The podcast is based on a book by the philosopher Peter S Williams, Outgrowing God? A Beginner’s Guide to Richard Dawkins and the God Debate. Listen to a trailer for the podcast here:
Williams says about The Question of God: ‘We turned to AI text-to-speech technology to generate the variety of accents we wanted to help listeners distinguish between the five characters in the dialogues. Our aim was not to tell listeners what to think about the God question, but to give them the tools to help them to think for themselves, and to model philosophy as a pursuit of truth through thinking and arguing well in a friendly community.’
The series comes complete with recommended online videos and books for each episode. There are also plans to produce group discussion material for sixth-formers, church groups, and undergraduates studying the philosophy of religion or Christian apologetics.
