About
Christian Evidence is here to explore the evidence and arguments for the Christian faith. The areas we mostly cover include faith as it relates to science, ethics, philosophy, archaeology, theology and the Bible. Christian Evidence is the online name for the Christian Evidence Society, which has been arguing the case for faith since 1870.
The way we’ve done that has ranged from evening lectures and threepenny booklets in the 1910s, open-air speaking with the help of a van sporting a fold-out pulpit in the 1930s and 40s, to this website and social media in the 2010s. We recently rediscovered some of our early, colourful history, as told in these blog posts: Rediscovering our past, and Rediscovering prayer ‘in this terrible war’. Episodes in our more recent story in the 1980s and 90s came to light when we posted tributes to John Pearce, who revitalised our work in 1981, and Pauline Webb, the Methodist church leader, who was one of our trustees.
We also found that some of our earliest apologetics books have been brought back into print and are for sale on Amazon. See Books ancient and modern for the story.
Here’s a detailed history of the society and here is the list of current trustees and others involved in the society.
Funds from the Christian Evidence Society have supported a number of Christian initiatives related to the proclamation and explanation of the gospel through various media. Grants have been considered for projects where the Society itself could have some involvement, or where it was recognised that the practitioners’ objectives were similar to those of the Society. The Christian Evidence Society does not award grants to individuals but instead channels funds through organisations, groups or other registered charities whose objectives are similar to its own.
